Chase Emerson Memorial Library Seeking Library Director

Chase Emerson Memorial Library (CEML), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is excited to venture into its next chapter with a new Library Director in Deer Isle. The library is seeking a dedicated professional with an eye for details, a mind for books, and a love of community-building.

​

CEML serves approximately 3,000 year-round and 4,600 seasonal residents. In addition to lending, our library also offers robust programming. We regularly host crafting, writing groups, technological support hours, children’s story time, student art shows, and more. As a rural Maine library, we also serve as a reliable space for remote workers.

​The Library Director is responsible for varied administrative and professional work related to planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of library operations, including acquisitions and cataloging, hiring and training staff, managing the annual budget, supporting fundraising efforts, and serving as a liaison to the community.

Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, high-quality and compassionate customer service, an ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a Board of Directors, a knack for creative problem-solving, and attention to detail and time management. Previous experience in library management and/or a degree in library science is preferred but not required.

 

This is a part-time position (up to 30 hours per week) supported by one additional staff member. As a part-time role, this position does not offer benefits (e.g., health insurance). Compensation is $20-25 per hour, depending on experience.
