We don’t know about you, but we want the start of 2021 to be FUN! In our minds nothing says fun like contests and prizes. So we’ll be hosting a series of contests for the next few months to kick off 2021 with a smile. You can participate from far or near (no matter your age, physical prowess, or IQ) and it’s open to everyone whether you are a card holder or not (although if not, why not?) so tell your friends and family! We’ll be sending out an email on the first day of each contest with details and it will also be on Facebook and Instagram. You can find us there @deerislelibrary. The easiest way to play is through social media by commenting on the contest post. Alternatively, you can email your entries to deerislelibrary@gmail.com or call us at 207-348-2899.
GUESS OUR MOST CHECKED OUT BOOKS OF 2020
2/8-2/17
Every entry gets entered into a random drawing for the Grand Prize pictured in the graphic. All correct answers will be awarded a free beverage from 44 North Coffee in Deer Isle Village. One entry per person per day, winner notified by 2/19. Big thanks to The Dry Dock of Stonington, Leaf & Anna of Brooklin, and 44 North Coffee of Deer Isle for providing prizes. You can participate through social media @deerislelibrary, email us at deerislelibrary@gmail.com or call 348-2899. Interestingly, there is more than one title tied for the honor of most checked out book, so guess your hearts out and have fun!
WHAT DVD DID WE LOAN OUT MOST IN 2020?
1/25-1/30
Participants had many great guesses, but Heather Dunham guessed A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and won a free beverage from 44 North Coffee. Anne Douglass won the random drawing for first prize and received the fun socks and beautiful wooden gift box of three handmade soaps from Sisters Soap. Congratulations to our winners! We are very grateful to The Dry Dock of Stonington for their generous donation of the Sisters Soap box.
HOW MANY BOOKS ARE IN THE LIBRARY?
January 18-23
Congratulations to Jason Langley! He won the random drawing for first place. Surprisingly, his randomly drawn guess was also the closest number so he won second place as well! At the time of the contest, the Library had 12,283 books in our collection, Jason guessed 12,345. First prize was a brand new copy of Chickens, Gin and a Maine Friendship: the Correspondence of E.B. White and Edmund Ware Smith generously donated by Leaf&Anna of Brooklin.
FAVORITE BOOK TITLES
January 2-15
First and foremost, congratulations to Maureen Farr the winner of the wondrous prize socks! She was as delighted with them as we were to award them. We are considering this contest a rousing success, in no small part due to the terrific list of book favorites we now have. Thank you to all who participated! Numerous entries came from all ages via social media and email. Our youngest entrant, who has just recently learned to read, submitted Learning to Ski with Mr. Magee. This list reflects the varied and unique tastes of many. Perhaps you will find some reading inspiration within it! We didn't include the authors in our list, but if you need help tracking down a book don't hesitate to ask us.
